Negative SEO - the on-line nightmare

This morning I read a very disturbing article about Negative SEO. If you are a business owner who relies on their website to promote your business, then you’ll want to know about this!

I’m sure that most of you have heard of SEO (Search Engine Optimization)? This is where website owners undertake a series of positive activities that can help make their websites rank better with search engines. These activities are things like making sure the website coding is up to scratch, ensuring text content within web pages is unique, creating high quality back links, the list goes on! Well, Negative SEO is the complete opposite. It’s about making a website a complete turn-off to search engines.

Now why on earth would you want to do that?

Well of course YOU wouldn’t. But there are people out there who would be more than happy to do it to your website. Their objective is simple enough. To sabotage your website’s rankings with search engines and get you out of the picture! They can do this through a number of ways including hacking your website, duplicating your content and spreading it across the Internet, and creating spammy links back to your website.

Negative SEO can be the stuff of nightmares for any business owner. But, there are ways that you can prevent it happening to your website. And prevention is a whole lot easier than trying to revive your website after a Negative SEO attack.
